Faces of Madagascar
The front boy, eager to sell his wooden baobab statue, fights for our attention. The others reach to show us whatever objects they come to carry.
A man that we had just interviewed for documentary footage, posing with a tied-down rooster. When we asked him what makes him happy, he said “smoking weed”.
This boy lives in Antsirabe, the coldest region of Madagascar. Rather than prioritize ever-changing trends, the boy layers up to stay warm.
A man standing in the entrance of a family tomb in the Malagasy countryside, during Fadimahana. The festival is dedicated towards the family’s ancestors where the buried bodies are removed from the tomb, honored and returned again.
Teenage boys making use of the brief camera fame, at the traditional Fadimahana festival. Drums and flutes were playing in the backdrop, while people danced before returning their ancestors’ bodies back to the tomb.
An elderly lady resting against a stick as we stopped in a small village. I was drawn to her soulful eyes — she smiled widely as I showed her the photograph.
Whenever we pull out the camera, children are the first to come running, flooding with curiosity at seeing themselves on screen. This girl, initially shy, pointed at herself to be photographed.
Two beautiful girls posing confidently on the back of our rented 4x4 vehicle. As soon as we took out the camera, they started to pose like born models.
